Lorry with a burst tyre and faulty brakes rams into seven vehicles in Taiping

IPOH: A lorry crashed through seven vehicles at KM81 of Jalan Ipoh-Butterworth in Taiping, injuring four people.

Taiping OCPD Asst Comm Osman Mamat said the incident occurred on Tuesday (June 7) at about 7.30am.

“Based on initial investigations, the lorry that was carrying groceries had a tyre blowout and faulty brakes, causing it to ram into six cars and a motorcycle.

"Three car drivers and the motorcyclist sustained light injuries while the others were not hurt, including the 42-year-old lorry driver," he said, adding that the lorry was heading to Kuala Kangsar from Kamunting.

"The lorry driver's urine test came back negative,” he said.

ACP Osman said the incident would be investigated under Section 43 (1) of the Road Transport Act.

"We have seized the lorry to carry out an inspection by Puspakom," he said.
